MIDLAND, TX – Two men were arrested early Sunday morning after assaulting a security guard at La Cantina in Midland. Authorities confirmed that both suspects were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Security Guard Attacked While Escorting Patron Out of Bar
The Midland Police Department (MPD) responded to a call at 12:42 a.m. regarding an assault at La Cantina. Upon arrival, officers found three men on the ground in handcuffs and observed that the security guard had blood on his face from the attack.

According to the police affidavit, the incident started when Eusebio Lugo-Otero was being escorted out of the bar for excessive intoxication. As the security guard attempted to remove him, two other men—Ruben Gomez-Santis (26) and Pedro Erreguin Cervantes (34)—intervened and assaulted the officer.
Witnesses reported that Lugo-Otero’s associates jumped in and began punching the security guard repeatedly in the face, causing bleeding and injuries to his temple and nose.
Suspects Arrested for Assault and Public Intoxication
Authorities noted that both Gomez-Santis and Cervantes were highly intoxicated at the time of the incident.
✔ Gomez-Santis was found unable to stand on his own, had slurred speech, and had lost control of his mental faculties due to intoxication.
✔ Cervantes was also heavily intoxicated, had a strong smell of alcohol, and resisted police officers while being escorted from the scene.
MPD arrested:
- Gomez-Santis and Cervantes for assault on a security officer and public intoxication.
- Lugo-Otero for public intoxication.
Gomez-Santis remains in Midland County Jail on a $50,000 bond, while records for Lugo-Otero and Cervantes are not currently listed on the Midland County detainees’ website.
