A Cleveland man who pleaded guilty to assaulting a security guard at a Cleveland apartment complex was sentenced in Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas on Tuesday to 10 to 15 years in prison.

In March, Nathaniel Searight pleaded guilty to attempted murder, having weapons while under disability, and attempted unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.

The attack happened around 3 a.m. Sept. 30, 2025, in the 1000 block of Prospect Ave.

According to Cleveland police, Searight was involved in an argument with another person when the security guard, Brian Dean, attempted to intervene and was brutally assaulted.

Police said when they arrived on the scene, Dean was lying on the ground, and a second man, later identified as Searight, was standing over him.

Dean was left with critical injuries. According to family members, he can no longer walk.

The prosecution also reserved the right to re-indict the case if Dean dies.
