PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. – As the new school year begins in Arkansas, many are honoring the memory of Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) Security Guard Victor Montgomery, who tragically lost his life on the first day of school last year.
Montgomery was struck and killed by a car while directing traffic for Robinson Elementary School. What should have marked the beginning of his final year as a security officer instead became the last day of his life.

“He was just a loving person. He loved people, he loved kids,” said Montgomery’s wife, Alice Montgomery, reflecting on the warmth and kindness he brought to everyone he encountered. Family, friends, and colleagues gathered to pay tribute to him, acknowledging the lasting impact he left on the school community.

Changes to Security Procedures in His Honor
Montgomery’s tragic passing has led to changes in security practices at PCSSD schools. “Security will continue to be present on the sidewalks, but they will not direct any traffic outside of the streets unless there is a crosswalk available for students to cross,” said William El-Amin, PCSSD’s safety and security facilitator, highlighting adjustments made to protect staff and students.
Alice Montgomery shared that her family has felt unwavering support from the school and the security community, noting, “We haven’t walked this journey by ourselves. The support we have from Joe T. Robinson and the security department has been incredible.”
