Richard Lewis, 44, has been charged with First-Degree Murder, according to Memphis Police.

The parking lot of Main Event was crowded with officers investigating the fatal shooting of a security guard on Monday night.

Memphis Police have identified a suspect in the shooting but are still working to determine the motive behind the incident.

“We believe this incident stemmed from a verbal altercation between two individuals who were acquainted with each other,” MPD Major Christopher Parker said.

Patron Alexis Partee, who frequents Main Event, expressed shock at the news: “We were just coming here for a drink, and I just heard there was a shooting. It’s unbelievable, especially since they do such thorough security checks at the door.”

Regulars at the popular entertainment venue were stunned by the violence. “I’m used to being checked thoroughly at the entrance,” Partee added. “So it’s hard to believe someone managed to bring a firearm inside.”

Memphis Police responded to the scene on Appling Farms Parkway at 7:15 p.m., where they found a man deceased from a gunshot wound. Another man was detained at the scene, but police are still unclear whether the altercation occurred inside Main Event or in the parking lot.

The investigation reveals that both men involved were security guards. “Preliminary information indicates that the individuals involved were security personnel,” Parker stated.

As the investigation continues, patrons are expressing concern about their safety at the venue. “It’s very concerning, especially when you’re just out trying to have fun,” Partee said. “You can’t even enjoy yourself without worrying.”

At this time, no formal charges have been filed.

WREG reached out to Main Event for a statement. They responded: “We were shocked and saddened by the incident at our Memphis Main Event location. We have reviewed our safety and security procedures and are working closely with our security vendor partner to prevent such incidents in the future. Our primary concern remains the safety and well-being of our guests and employees, and we are fully cooperating with law enforcement during the investigation.”
