The Pennsylvania Senate Education Committee has moved forward with Senate Bill 907, which mandates the presence of armed security guards in schools.
Senate Bill 907 requires school districts to employ armed, trained, and vetted security personnel at every school during operational hours. Additionally, the bill allows school boards to station armed security personnel during extracurricular events on school grounds.
Introduced by Sen. Mike Regan, representing parts of Cumberland and York counties, the bill emphasizes the state’s responsibility to ensure student safety. “The state mandates school attendance, so it must ensure safety during school hours,” Regan stated in a news release. “My bill aims to make schools, teachers, and students less vulnerable to attacks.”
The bill now moves to the full Senate for further consideration.
