Alert Security Guard Recognizes Fugitive
Fort Worth Police shared that a security guard at the Union Gospel Mission shelter identified Altman upon his arrival, linking him to the Blue Alert issued earlier. Altman, 33, was wanted for the attempted capital murder of a police chief in Hall County, Texas. He had been evading law enforcement for nearly three weeks, following the incident in early October. The security guard promptly contacted Fort Worth police, leading to Altman’s arrest without any conflict.
Details of the Incident and Pursuit
The Blue Alert was initially issued on October 3, following the shooting in Memphis, Texas. Reports indicate that Altman opened fire on the Memphis Police Chief during a burglary-related arrest attempt, injuring the officer. Fortunately, the police chief was treated and released from the hospital shortly afterward.
This case underscored the collaborative effort among law enforcement agencies across Texas. Officer Tracy Carter of Fort Worth PD emphasized the importance of statewide coordination, which, along with the security guard’s vigilance, facilitated Altman’s capture.
