Security personnel at Federal Hill bars are accustomed to dealing with altercations, but insist a recent attack went too far.

A video surfaced showing a man, believed to be a security guard, placing another man in a chokehold for 30 seconds and slamming him into a car outside the Public House.

Pete Brazil, who worked security at another bar, called the incident excessive. “For 30 seconds, I do not condone that. He tapped, so he should have let him go.”

Brazil recognized the aggressor and described him as usually “a pretty cool, calm, collected dude” who “just had a bad day.” The city police have posted images of the fight on social media, seeking help to identify the security guard involved.

The management of the Public House clarified that the individual is not their employee and announced they would cease working with the security company responsible for the guard. Personnel at other bars believe the guard was off duty at the time, with one stating, “It’s his off day, he’s drinking for sure.”

Despite the frequent fights in the area, many agree that the level of violence in this incident was unwarranted. “Fights happen every day. I’m just happy that no one really got hurt,” Brazil said. The incident has sparked discussions on the importance of de-escalation, with one staffer emphasizing the need to “learn to de-escalate, communicate, and walk away.”
