“I opened the door, and she was loudly asking for help,” he recalled. Within moments, it became clear—Abigail was in active labor and the baby wasn’t going to wait.
A Security Guard Steps Up
Without hesitation, Cameron jumped into action. He put on gloves, knelt down, and assisted in delivering baby Oliver right there in the hospital lobby.
At 3:39 a.m., baby Oliver was born, weighing 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
“There really wasn’t a whole lot going through my mind except making sure she and the baby were OK, safe, and cared for until further trained personnel could arrive,” Cameron shared.
A Grateful Family and a Memorable Moment
Although the new parents were busy adjusting to life with their newborn, hospital staff confirmed that mom and baby were doing well. Later, the Bechtels reunited with Cameron to express their gratitude.
“They were very thankful, very gracious people,” Cameron said. “But for me, this is why I do this job—I enjoy being there and helping people, no matter how big or small the situation.”
Celebrating Everyday Heroes
Cameron’s quick thinking and willingness to step up in an emergency highlight the incredible role security officers play in our communities. His story is a testament to the dedication and care that security professionals provide beyond their usual duties.
A big congratulations to the Bechtel family and a warm welcome to baby Oliver!
