A victim of the July 2025 mass stabbing at a Traverse City Walmart has filed a lawsuit against the retail chain, alleging the company failed to protect customers despite warning signs before the attack.

Morgan and Morgan, representing victim Aaron Boudot, released new details about the incident Tuesday. According to the law firm, Boudot was shopping with his family when Bradford James Gille entered the store after being removed from a nearby Burger King.

The lawsuit alleges Gille walked through the store for more than 30 minutes carrying a large duffel bag and displaying suspicious behavior before the attack occurred. The firm claims Walmart employees failed to intervene or contact police despite the prolonged presence.

Morgan and Morgan attorneys assert the store had no security personnel on duty at the time and failed to follow internal company policies. The lawsuit points to a pattern of violent incidents at Walmart locations across the country.

The legal team argues Walmart is applying different safety standards in Michigan compared to other states, suggesting the company does not believe it has equivalent duties to protect customers in the state.

“What [Walmart] is telling us is that they do not think that they have the same duties to protect their customers in Michigan as they do in other states,” said David R. Stechow, a Morgan and Morgan attorney.

The lawsuit is seeking compensation for ongoing medical expenses.

Spectrum News received the following statement from a Walmart spokesperson concerning the lawsuit:

“The safety of our customers and associates is a top priority. We will review the complaint once served and will respond appropriately in court.”
