Over 300 private security officers responsible for safeguarding office buildings in Hartford have reached a tentative contract agreement with four major security companies. The union-led negotiations, conducted by District 32BJ of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), began on Sept. 4 following the expiration of the previous contract at the end of September.
The negotiations involved four security firms—Allied Universal, GardaWorld, Securitas, and SSC Security Services—that provide security for prominent Hartford corporations such as Aetna, Cigna, Eversource, Otis, The Hartford, Travelers, and the Wadsworth Atheneum.

On Oct. 9, a bargaining committee composed of 32BJ SEIU security officers and union officials reached a tentative four-year agreement with the contractors. Set for ratification votes on Oct. 17 and 18, the agreement includes a nearly 20% wage increase over the contract’s duration, enhanced job protections, “affordable” health care with reduced premiums and copays, and the addition of Juneteenth as a paid holiday.
If ratified, the wage increases would begin on Jan. 1, 2025. This contract would be the second ever secured by the union for private security officers.
