Security guards working for Southern Nuclear Operating Company at Plant Vogtle have filed a petition with the National Labor Relations Board, according to the National Right to Work Foundation.
The group is seeking a vote to remove the Security, Police, and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) union from their workplace.
The petition was filed Dec. 29 and remains open as of Jan. 8, according to the NLRB.
Georgia lawmakers submitted their final recommendations on a plan that could eventually wipe out the state income tax altogether. About 250 security guards would be eligible to vote in the decertification election, according to documents.
According to the National Right to Work Foundation, the petition was submitted on behalf of the employees by Dallas Howard.
The National Right to Work Foundation cited past disputes, including cases in Delaware and Las Vegas.
“SPFPA union officials have repeatedly shown that they care little about the workers they claim to ‘represent.’ They only care about maintaining control and power, and we are proud to assist these security guards as they try to restore their individual freedom,” said National Right to Work Foundation President Mark Mix. “While Georgia’s Right to Work law guards employees from the forced-dues demands of union officials, no worker should be forced under the control of union chiefs who are self-interested or simply aren’t doing a good job.”
