On July 17, 2025, two Chicago Public Schools (CPS) security officers were formally recognized by the Chicago City Council for their bravery in protecting a student from an attempted abduction in Little Village.
Richard Christian, a school security officer since 1996, and Hector Rodriguez, a veteran officer and boys’ baseball coach, were honored with a resolution introduced by Alderperson Michael D. Rodriguez. The resolution praised their swift, courageous response during an incident at Little Village Lawndale High School, where their actions helped safeguard a student and assist law enforcement.
Both school security officers were commended for their dedication to student safety, professionalism, and service to the school community. Officer Christian was noted for his steady presence and calm handling of complex situations, while Officer Rodriguez was recognized for his leadership both in security and as a mentor to student-athletes.
The resolution also highlighted the critical role school security officers play in maintaining safe learning environments across Chicago.
