Two families of murder victims sued the Cedar Grove Apartments in Miami Gardens, holding the complex accountable for failing to provide adequate security after their sons were killed in separate shootings on the property. Marcia Dixon lost her son, Edwin Dixon, in a fatal shooting last year while he was visiting a friend at the complex on Northwest 207th Street.

“Edwin was in the prime of his life when he was ripped from this earth and us,” Dixon expressed with grief. Similarly, Robin Gore, who lost her son Taborez White in another shooting at the same location just six months later, echoed Dixon’s heartbreak. “Instead of being filled with joy and celebration, I’m here talking about the memory of my son,” Gore said.
Both families have filed a negligent security lawsuit against the property, alleging that the complex’s management failed to provide necessary security measures to prevent such tragedies. “There is a real cost when you allow crime to run rampant on your property. That cost is earth-shattering pain for people like my husband and me,” Dixon shared.

Negligent Security and Legal Implications
Under Florida law, property owners are required to provide adequate security for foreseeable criminal activities. Joshua Padron, an attorney with The Haggard Law Firm representing the families, emphasized this legal duty. NBC6 reached out to Cedar Grove management for comment, but no response has been provided.
Questions Over Security Measures
During a deposition, Cedar Grove’s property manager admitted that security efforts had not been increased after the shootings, with only two security cameras and limited security guards on duty. Following yet another shooting on December 31, 2023, which left one man injured, a third negligent security lawsuit has been filed by the victim, who survived the attack but has chosen to remain anonymous.
