Metro Parks has launched a $2.4 million security plan to increase safety at community centers and facilities across Davidson County, bringing armed security guards to several high-traffic locations.
The rollout began Friday, September 5, and will initially focus on key sites, including the Centennial Sportsplex, Hamilton Creek Marina, Permitting Office, and multiple community centers throughout Davidson County.
Officials say the decision comes after years of safety concerns and community feedback calling for stronger security measures.
The intent is to utilize as many safety options as possible for our patrons,” said Monique Horton Odom, Director of Metro Parks and Recreation. “We want families to feel safe using our facilities.
The guards, provided by Archangel Security and Allied Universal, are trained in active threat response and will coordinate directly with Metro Parks Police and the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Metro Parks says this change will also allow staff to focus on running programs and services, rather than managing security concerns, while creating a safer environment for families visiting facilities.
The department plans to expand armed guard coverage in phases, prioritizing the highest-traffic locations first.
