A man is suing a pool hall in downtown Ocala for negligence, claiming he was beaten by an unlicensed security guard who he alleges has a history of aggression.

Kyle Littrell filed the complaint on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2025, in the Fifth Judicial Circuit Court of Marion County against Downtown Billiards, Inc., which is located at 8 S. Magnolia Ave.

According to the lawsuit, Littrell was a patron at the pool hall on October 30, 2025. During his visit, he claims he was “physically assaulted” by an employee tasked with security duties.

The complaint alleges the staff member used “excessive and unwarranted force” against Littrell, resulting in “permanent and significant scarring,” disability, and mental anguish.

The lawsuit goes on to question the pool hall’s hiring practices, asserting that the employee assigned to “bouncer functions” did not hold the required Class D or Class G security officer licenses mandated by Florida law.

Furthermore, the complaint claims the business “knew or… should have known” that the employee was allegedly unfit for the job. Littrell’s attorneys allege the pool hall ignored “prior complaints and/or incidents evidencing the employee’s unfitness,” including previous reports of aggressive conduct.

The filing accuses Downtown Billiards of negligent hiring, retention, and supervision, arguing that a background check would have revealed the employee’s lack of licensure and history of aggression.

Instead, the suit claims, the business placed the employee in a position of authority without proper training in de-escalation or use-of-force boundaries.

Littrell is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 as compensation for his medical expenses, lost earnings, and pain and suffering. Downtown Billiards has not yet filed a response to the allegations.
