Sunstates Security Commends Exceptional Service and Bravery at Annual Leadership Conference
Sunstates Security has proudly named Officer Aaron Polak of Fort Lauderdale as the company’s 2025 Security Officer of the Year. This prestigious honor was announced during Sunstates’ annual leadership conference in May, recognizing Polak’s heroic response to a life-threatening emergency and his continued dedication to safety and service excellence.
A Heroic Act That Saved a Life
On October 27, 2024, Officer Polak was stationed at a luxury senior living facility—part of the country’s largest land-based federation—when he was called to respond to a critical medical emergency involving an unconscious resident. Without hesitation, Polak immediately began performing CPR in coordination with an Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) team member. As the resident remained unresponsive, he directed the team to deploy an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). After two shock cycles, the resident regained consciousness and a steady pulse, ultimately making a full recovery with no lingering effects.
“Aaron’s quick thinking, medical training, and calm leadership quite literally saved a life,” said Denis Kelly, CEO of Sunstates Security. “His professionalism and compassion are the embodiment of our mission to serve and protect with excellence.”
Prepared by a Lifetime of Service
Polak’s decisive actions are rooted in a well-established foundation of discipline and service. His background includes ten years in the Israeli military, where he developed elite tactical skills, situational awareness, and a collaborative mindset. After completing EMT training in Coral Springs, Florida, he joined Sunstates in early 2024 as an armed officer.
From the start, Polak stood out for his vigilance and strong interpersonal skills. His outstanding performance quickly earned him a permanent assignment at a high-profile client site, where he became known for delivering exceptional service to both residents and staff.
Client Leadership Offers High Praise
The senior leadership at the client facility did not hesitate to recognize Polak’s lifesaving intervention and ongoing commitment. A Vice President at the community remarked, “Aaron, your compassion and dedication to our residents and team members is greatly appreciated.” Echoing this sentiment, the organization’s President and CEO stated, “His efforts were significant and impactful. We truly appreciate his commitment and dedication to our residents.”
Recognizing Additional Outstanding Officers
While Polak received the top honor, Sunstates also highlighted two other exceptional officers for their exemplary contributions:
Second Place – Araya Wheeler (Nashville):
Wheeler was recognized for her composed and decisive handling of a high-stress incident involving a truck accident. Her rapid response ensured the safety of the driver and maintained order at the scene, earning commendation from both clients and peers.
Third Place – Danny Caldwell (Raleigh):
Caldwell was celebrated for his compassionate and skilled approach in managing interactions with unhoused individuals. In addition to his empathy, he demonstrated expert-level de-escalation techniques during several potentially volatile encounters, ensuring the safety and dignity of all parties involved.
“These officers represent the best of Sunstates,” added Kelly. “We are grateful for their courage, commitment, and service in keeping our communities safe.”
