Family Mourns the Loss of Cynthia Platt
Friends and family gathered for a vigil Friday night, remembering Cynthia Platt, described as a vibrant, outgoing person with a love for adventure. Her cousin, Elizabeth Simpkins, expressed the heartbreak felt by those closest to her. “She had so much life to live,” Simpkins shared. The shocking news has left relatives reeling, with cousin Tiffani Norman adding, “She was left for dead by herself.”
Platt was an armed security guard on duty in an industrial area near I-94 and Pelham in Taylor when she was shot in the head with her own weapon. A cryptic 911 call from her boyfriend, who police have since taken into custody, first alerted authorities to the incident.

Security Guard Was Fatally Shot Due To An Allegedly Abusive Relationship
According to sources, Platt had been trying to escape a physically and emotionally abusive relationship. Family members at the vigil expressed shock, noting they had not realized the severity of the situation. “I don’t think we ever thought something like this would happen to her,” Simpkins said, describing the immense loss felt by those who knew Platt.
The investigation has revealed that her boyfriend allegedly guided police to recover her weapon and cellphone, both key pieces of evidence in the ongoing case. Although charges have not yet been filed, police continue to gather evidence.
As family members mourn the loss, they reflect on the tragic nature of the incident. “Even if the person they have in custody is convicted of this crime, his family can still go see him,” Norman said, emphasizing the lasting pain for Platt’s loved ones.
