A security guard was shot and killed Monday night in an armed robbery of an illegal game room in the Sharpstown area, according to Houston police.

The guard was shot about 9:20 p.m. at the game room in the 7000 block of Bissonnet Street, near Beechnut, Lt. J.P. Horelica said. The security guard was working the location and was shot at least once during the armed robbery, he said.

Houston Fire Department personnel rendered aid to the security guard and pronounced him dead at the scene, according to police.

Horelica said he had no information about any suspects on Monday night.

Police who responded to the fatal shooting at the illegal game room were seen entering and exiting one of the businesses inside Fondren Road Plaza, where Horelica suggested the illegal game room was operating.

“I’m not sure what businesses here are legitimate and what aren’t, but it’s obvious the front of it is made to look like it’s something else,” he told OnScene TV.

No one was around the scene when police arrived, and Horelica thinks people had already fled. He said the area had “good surveillance,” so police should be able to recover quality video footage.
