Three Londoners are charged following what the Ontario Provincial Police describe as a “complex fraud” related to falsifying records to place security guards in long-term care facilities.

On Tuesday, the OPP announced that the charges were laid by its serious fraud office following an investigation that began in July 2024.

Police say that the investigation focused on the “falsification of eligibility documents” being provided on behalf of people “in order to expedite their placement as security guards in long-term care facilities in Ontario.”

Three Londoners, ages 28, 22, and 34, are each charged with fraud over $5,000 and uttering a forged document, police said. The accused have been released from custody and are scheduled to next appear in London court on Jan. 15, police said.

Police noted that officials with Ontario’s long-term care ministry, the solicitor-general’s private security and investigative services branch, and the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) aided in the investigation.

The investigation is ongoing, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or, for those wishing to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).

Police say officers responded around 10 a.m. Monday, a report that a teenage male was believed to have a firearm at the school on Clarke Road in London’s East End. A suspect was quickly identified and arrested at a nearby plaza, where officers seized a replica firearm, police said.

No injuries were reported, and there was no threat to public safety, police said.

On Tuesday, police said a 17-year-old, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon.

He is scheduled to appear in London court on Jan. 26, police said.
