A 46-year-old woman from Cambridge has initiated legal action against the proprietors and managers of an office building on Cambridgepark Drive, alleging that she was assaulted at knifepoint within the premises. The incident reportedly occurred in May while the building was undergoing construction.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to the lawsuit, the woman entered a restroom in the building when a masked man wielding a knife confronted her. The assailant allegedly forced her to disrobe completely before assaulting her. Following the attack, the victim managed to crawl to an elevator to seek assistance. She has stated that she does not know the identity of her attacker.

Allegations of Security Lapses

The lawsuit contends that the building’s security measures were inadequate, especially during nighttime hours. Access was purportedly restricted to individuals permitted entry by security personnel or those possessing electronic keys. The plaintiff argues that these protocols failed to prevent unauthorized access, thereby compromising tenant safety.

Ongoing Investigation

In response to the reported assault, the Cambridge Police Department, in collaboration with the Massachusetts State Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, has launched an investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect. Authorities have increased patrols in the Cambridgepark Drive vicinity and are urging anyone with pertinent information to come forward.

This case underscores the critical importance of robust security measures in commercial properties, particularly those under construction or with restricted access. Building owners and managers are reminded of their duty to ensure the safety of occupants and visitors by implementing effective security protocols.
