A security guard has filed a lawsuit against her former employer, alleging a wrongful termination following pregnancy and maternity leave. The plaintiff, Raquel Rojas, contends that Allied Universal Security Services engaged in harassment, discrimination, and retaliation, leading to her dismissal.

Allegations of Discrimination and Retaliation

Rojas, 32, began her employment with Allied Universal in October 2019, providing customer service and security for various clients. She asserts that she was a dedicated employee, often working over 12 hours daily and covering multiple events. However, after informing her male supervisors of her pregnancy in April 2022, she alleges they were unsympathetic to her condition. One supervisor reportedly denied her request to be relieved early during a shift exceeding 10 hours, despite her high-risk pregnancy.

Lack of Accommodations and Reduction in Shifts

Rojas claims that her requests to human resources for work adjustments, supported by a doctor’s note recommending less standing, were ignored. Subsequently, she began receiving fewer shifts, which she believes was a direct response to her pregnancy and accommodation requests.

Claimed Wrongful Termination Following Pregnancy and Maternity Leave

In December 2022, Rojas commenced her maternity leave. Upon attempting to return to work three months later, she was informed that she would need to reapply for her position. The company cited her lack of work since two months before her leave as the reason for her termination, stating she was no longer considered an employee. Rojas contends that she had been willing to work up until her leave but had not received any assignments.

Legal Action and Claims of Wrongful Termination Following Pregnancy and Maternity Leave

Rojas has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against Allied Universal Security Services, alleging harassment, discrimination, whistleblower retaliation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and breach of contract. She is seeking unspecified damages for economic losses and emotional distress resulting from her termination.
