Kelli Lotito, now the safety and security director at Regis Jesuit High School in Colorado, has leveraged her 22 years of diverse roles at the school to establish robust relationships that enhance campus safety.
Starting as a physical education teacher, Lotito advanced to athletic director and then served as dean of students for 15 years. Her extensive experience has helped her build trust and collaboration with various school stakeholders, a critical factor in her current role.
“It’s crucial to have buy-in from your constituents,” said Lotito, a 2024 Campus Safety Director of the Year finalist. “I partner with our certified athletic trainers, who are here after hours and early mornings, to discuss concerns ranging from unauthorized campus visitors to weather safety. With our 87-acre campus, quick and coordinated responses are essential.”
Lotito’s background in sports medicine has also fostered strong connections with the school’s two full-time nurses. “Having two full-time nurses is rare today,” she noted. “We collaborate on medical safety, ensuring EMS knows our campus layout, which includes five buildings, multiple sports fields, and three entrances. This partnership is key to maintaining safety.”
