Cambridge police are currently investigating a sexual assault that occurred around 9:18 p.m. on Friday in an office building on Cambridgepark Drive. The alert about the incident was issued on Saturday afternoon.
The incident came to light when a security guard, conducting a routine patrol, reported hearing screams from a floor under construction and meant to be empty, according to scanner reports. The victim may have been employed on a nearby floor. Detectives were seen processing a crime scene in a restroom and collaborating with Massachusetts State Police to identify and locate the suspect.
The victim described the assailant as a masked man armed with a knife.
The Middlesex District Attorney’s Office has been informed of the incident, police said.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the assault to contact them at (617) 349-3300 or to report anonymously.
Residents are advised to call 911 immediately if they feel threatened or notice suspicious activity. Police also noted a previous attack in the area on June 24, when a woman successfully fought off an attempted assault while walking her dog on Cambridgepark Drive at approximately 3:30 a.m.
